Introduction

A flight into the town of Puerto Maldonado followed by a boat journey up tributaries of the Amazon, will take you to one of the jungle lodges located in the Tambopata national reserve. A variety of all-inclusive eco-lodges priovde visitors with a chance to get deep into the Amazon rainforest; you can explore oxbow lakes, walk deep into the jungle and see an unparalled variety of birds, insects and mammals.

Thing to do

Once at the lodges, common excursions include hikes through the rainforest, visits to oxbow lakes, boat trips up the tributaries. some lodges have observations towers and canopy walkways. Others may offer outdoor activities such as canopy climbing and kayaks. For those peple really interested in wildife, you could choose a lodge deepr into the forest, maybe close to a macaw lick where visitors can observe hundreds of parrots and macaws feeding on the clay found in the riverbank.

Climate

It's hot in the Amazon! Average year around daytime temperatures are well above 30°C, with May until August being the coolest months. The rest of the year, temperatures commonly reach 36°C. At night, it commonly drops to 20°C, but rarely lower. Rainshowers are quite common throughout the year, but November through March are the wettest months, when heavier rain could be expected.
